Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS) Introductory Text The Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS) is administered by Yunus Emre Institute in line with the proficiency definitions determined in the "European Common Recommendations Framework for Languages" in order to measure the reading, listening, writing and speaking skills of individuals learning Turkish as a foreign or second language. It is a language proficiency test developed and applied simultaneously in Turkey and all countries where Yunus Emre Institutes are located three times a year on an international scale since 2013.
The Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS), developed by Yunus Emre Institute, has received ALTE (The Association of Language Testers in Europe) approval (Q-mark) and has become the first and only internationally validated language exam of Turkish. It is important to measure and evaluate the competencies of individuals in Turkish reading, listening, writing and speaking skills with measurement tools whose validity and reliability have been proven. With the TYS, which is the internationally recognized standard exam of Turkish, it is aimed to standardize the teaching in different institutions that teach Turkish abroad.
While TYS increases the interest of foreign students in Turkey, it is of great importance in terms of facilitating the acceptance of job and education applications of these students and evaluating them on a more robust platform.
TYS takes place in three sessions. Sections (reading, listening, writing) in the 1st and 2nd sessions of TYS are group exams; The section (speech) in the 3rd session is applied separately for each candidate. The entire exam takes 210 minutes, with the 1st session being 135 minutes, the 2nd session 60 minutes, and the 3rd session 15 minutes.
Candidates who are successful in the exam are given a Turkish Proficiency Certificate at B2 and Cl levels according to their scores. The Turkish Proficiency Certificate, which has the ALTE Quality Mark (Q-mark), is the first and only internationally valid language proficiency certificate of Turkish.
Candidates who have Turkish Proficiency Certificate are exempted from studying Turkish preparatory class when they gain the right to study in any institution in Turkey. In addition, a Turkish Proficiency Certificate is required from foreigners who want to teach, guide or act as a translator. Turkish Proficiency Certificate provides a great advantage to individuals in job applications.
